Gasol trade rumors: (ESPN: Gasol unlikely to be traded p.50)

Pau Gasol:

He probably has the best chance of being traded among the current and former All-Star players. The Lakers are woefully short in the backcourt and with depth and athleticism. He was in that aborted preseason deal to the Rockets, and their interest is said to remain the most significant.

The deal that’s been most speculated is Gasol for Luis Scola and Kyle Lowry.

The Rockets are said to be high on Goran Dragic and Jonny Flynn to replace Lowry, and the Lakers desperately need a point guard under Mike Brown’s system. This is a deal although denied for now, that benefits both teams and seems very likely to be made.

Chances of Gasol being dealt: 75%

It's been discussed for months now, and yes I would do it if Houston would.

I fail to see how it's terrible. Pau's value obviously isn't that high anymore, not as high as many here think anyway, so maybe you can get Rondo (only All-Star PG I think that might be available for Pau), or you can get a borderline All-Star in Lowry (this year he was borderline) AND a replacement PF in Scola. I'd rather fill both needs than just one, but I doubt this deal happens anyway.

I would be 50/50, I'm lil concerned with Scola decline in production and he will be owed 10/11mill when he is 35yrs old, pretty much unmovable by than. Obvious positive is Lowrly if he can keep up his current pace

Plus, I'll take Lowry over Rondo. Rondo is a better rebounder and defender, but Lowry is solid in both. Lowry kills rondo in stretching the floor for Bynum though.

I hear you on Scola's decline. I only do it because of Lowry, and for this year at least you have a solid PF to pair with Bynum for a playoff run.

If a Rondo / Bass / O'Neal deal was available I would do that one before this one.

This deal is not bad by any means. Maybe we can sneak in Budinger, Lee or Williams into that deal as well.

I agree with this.

Considering rondo is twice the player Lowry is and bass is about equal to scola then there is not a chance in hell I'd make this rockets deal before the celtics deal

I still say keep the big three together, but if management is dead set on trading Gasol, I prefer the Houston deal to the Rondo deal for two reasons.

1. Lowry can knock down the outside shot consistently.

2. Luis Scola is a better replacement for Gasol than Jermaine O'neal's corpse.

Also, people need to remember that Boston LOVES Brandon Bass. They want him long term. We AREN'T getting Bass in a Gasol trade. I say we should go for Felton/Sessions and Beasley. The big three DESERVE one more shot together to get it done.

If all we can get with Rondo is JO & we don't have a 3rd team to flip JO's expiring into a piece we want, I would take a package of Lowry + Scola. If we can get Bass you take that & run, but Rondo's lack of a jumper is a legit concern & Scola is more of a proven starter than Bass, & will also be a better fit seeing as his game is basically what Pau's has been reduced to this season. I don't think we'd see much drop off.

Another reason I prefer this deal is because I think Houston would give up a bit more than just those 2 & despite liking Dragic & Flynn, would feel better about dealing Lowry if they brought in a proven backup like Blake. If we could come away with Budinger & drop either Metta, Luke, or Barnes, I'd be extremely happy with the deal. TPE + Dallas 1st for Beasley.

If I'm LA I ask for a pick too, even a second rounder.

We're doing them a favor by taking that awful Scola contract off their hands and tying ours for 4 years on it. Lowry is a stud though and I think he'd make this team a lot better.

I'd also still try to turn a 1st into Beasley, God I hope that's still alive.

Rondo is playoff tested and better at handling talent ego as the PG bcuz he has played its Allen Pierce and Garnett.

Most people want a three team deal where we ship JO for some other pieces in return. Don't know how likely that is, but then again most likely this may not happen at all.

If that is available, I wonder if NJ would take Lowry/Martin + Dallas Pick for Deron.

Really.... I'd take Rondo over Lowry. Rondo's ability to turn it on during the playoffs is pretty remarkable. He has had enormous games in the playoffs. Lowry is doing well this year but has no real history of excellence beyond his run this year and recently he's coming back to Earth a little.

I like Lowry's shooting over Rondo, but that's about it. Rondo is young, battle tested and is shown an ability to mesh with strong veteran personalities. That shouldn't be overlooked......

As I said in the Rondo thread..... if we get him we need a 3 that can shoot the 3 and a PF that can shoot the jumper. Murphy fits that description in a pinch and if there is any truth to the Beasley rumors he would fit nicely as a shooting 3. It's a lot of "ifs" but Rondo, in that scenario would be better than Lowry IMHO.....
