The Lakers are considered the favorites to sign Jose Calderon if he is amnestied by the Raptors to sign Steve Nash, according to sources.

Calderon would have to clear waivers through the amnesty process before he is free to choose his next team.

But if he does become a free agent, Calderon would then look to sign with the Lakers.

Sources say Calderon would also have interest in joining Luis Scola wherever he ends up if he is traded.

The Heat and Spurs are also intriguing to Calderon.

No D, BUT he is a distributor who can effectively space the floor. Since this would be an amnesty thing then we could get him for Vet Min. So, move Blake, resign Sessions and do a Calderon / Sessions rotation. Calderon gets more minutes with Bynum for spacing, and Sessions runs the quicker second unit.

You think Jose would accept the vets minimum?

Well, in an amnesty the player gets paid his full salary by the original team. That's about 10 million for him I think.

I said in another thread I would be all for it, his D is awful but he can hit the 3, handle the ball and dish.

I never really watched a lot of Calderon, but if he plays no defense, do you think Mike Brown will play him?

If Jose Calderon is amnestied, the lottery teams would have first dibs.

Will that be the case if Pau is traded?....

11 points / 9 assists / 3 boards / 37% from 3

Yea, I'll take that for the minimum.

I think he's a better fit than Jameer but Jameer is a better overall player.. I think we go with whichever guy will take the minimum..

Well Doc.... you need to put on your "Laker Spectacles" and look at it again..... :man10:

With those stats "corrected" for us.... it will look like 6.5 points / 2.4 assists / .9 boards and 11.8% from 3....

We seem to have a bad effect on players that have had decent careers elsewhere....

Simple math formula....Divide every stat by 2 and if you are a 3 point shooter divide by 5. It's truly a curse.

I'd take Calderon. He can about hit 35-40% of his 3-pointers (source). Now yes, Sessions hit 48.6% of his threes last year, but he didn't take too many (only 35 attempts - (source)). Blake only hit 33% (source). It isn't a major deep threat upgrade but if he can space the floor AND we can keep Sessions I think they'd make a nice one-two combo.

Can't he clear waivers and become a FA? Isn't that an option?

Yeah it is.... but..... and someone correct me if I'm off here.... I think there is a "progressive" reward for teams at the front of the line to take a player off of the Amnesty Wire. I think, for example, if Charlotte takes him his cost to them would be nearly nothing.... and Toronto would still pay most of his salary..... it wouldn't count against the cap but they would still pay it.

A decent player won't make it very far down I wouldn't think...

You clear waivers if noone bids on you. So if someone bids on him a la the clippers with billups we won't get a shot
