Lakers one of several options for Jameer Nelson

Just a name thrown around again. The Lakers need a PG, let's throw their name out there.

I like him, but I think he gets paid somewhere else. He's not what he was even a few years ago, but he'd be nice. I just don't see it happening.

Have your agent say "Lakers" and you'll get 10% more in your contract.....

Seriously.... he hasn't been a good player for a couple years now..... don't know what happened to him.... he used to absolutely kill us a few years ago... I don't think he solves any of our problems other than maybe a scorer off the bench at this point.....

He must have really wanted out of Orlando considering he opted out of an 8 million contract. He'd be a solid replacement for Sessions if he bolts.

Yes! You guys don't know the value of Jameer Nelson because you didn't have him on your ESPN fantasy bball team last season. I did. The great thing about the fantasy league that ESPN does is that there is a wealth of information available at your fingertips. Nelson had one of the highest efficiency ratings of all the point guards in league.

Jameer is very underrated. We can get him at a good price. And we SHOULD get him!

Jameer went from overrated to underrated in a short span.. Similar to Pau.. He isn't as bad as people make him out to be but he isn't the player he was.. Would still be arguably the 2nd best guard on our team.. He's arguably the best realistic option out there at pg with Nash & Kidd off the board.. I put him slightly above Andre Miller.. His game compliments our starting lineup better than Sessions also leaving Sesh to thrive off the bench.. I like it

F*** that I don't want him anywhere near the Lakers. He's a little bit younger version of Fisher these days, just with a bit more production and none of the leadership skills and clutch ability.

Umm, did you hear what I said. Nelson, in his limited opportunities with the dysfunctional Orlando team, still had one of the highest PER efficiency ratings of point guards in the league last year. You are absolutely delusional if you think he is at the level of Derrick Fisher. We can get this guy for cheap!

How's his D? Anyone know? I would throw our mMLE at him, but he's probably looking for a longer contract.

I read what you said, I just don't put any stock in it. Fantasy basketball is not real basketball. In real basketball, Jameer is short, aging , not a great shooter, not a great passer, not a good defender, like I said he's basically Fisher from years ago without the clutch shooting and leadership. You're delusional if you think he'd give us much more production than Fisher, he's not even better than Sessions at this point, and I honestly couldn't give less of a crap about PER, I'm not Hollinger I actually watch games not box scores.

lol @ brooklyn as one of the teams he's interested in. What if DWill bolts to Dallas, Brooklyn signs Jameer....and Dwight gets traded to Brooklyn. lol..... they'd be the Brooklyn Magic. I actually hope that happens just to make Dwight look even more stupid.

I don't think people are getting what I'm saying with that comparison. Is he better than Fisher? Yes, but what I'm saying is you're not going to get a ton more production from him than we were with Fish when he was still good. Jameer put up 12 and 6 last season, pretty much his career average, those aren't amazing numbers. I realize he's 30, but when you're that short and your speed and hops go, you 'age' quicker than taller players because at that height you NEED those things to make it in the NBA. So again, he's better than Fisher, but not by a whole lot, and I wouldn't expect a lot of production here, I wouldn't expect him to control the game/offense (like Fisher didn't), he's not a great playmaker (like Fisher), I don't see the point in signing a guy like him, unless maybe for the absolute minimum as a backup.

Fantasy basketball isn't the best way to see the value in a player. Paul Millsap is a Fantasy star and Dwight Howard isn't. There are fantasy leagues that value Matt Bonner. Heck, Pau is still a fantasy beast, right? Nelson must have known the circus Howard was about to create because he won't be getting anywhere near what he was getting in Orlando. I don't see him starting on any team from this point on in his career. With that said, he could be a decent pick up at the right price if Blake is gone.

Yes Nelson is an average point guard/player, but so is Ramon Sessions. Matter of fact so are most of the point guards available outside of Deron Williams and Steve Nash who are no longer realistic options for the Lakers. I don't think the Lakers will/should sign him if they bring back Sessions, but if not he'd be a good replacement. Nelson was an All Star not too long ago. In 2008/2009 he made the Eastern Conference All Star team, but then suffered a serious elbow injury and hasn't been the same since. Who knows maybe he can regain his All Star form. Sometimes a change of scenery can turn a player's career around. I will say I'm very shocked he opted out. He was making nearly 8 million per year. He won't get anywhere near that on the open market.

If Sessions leaves, and then we trade Pau but can't get a starting PG in return, then Nelson for the mini-MLE might be the best we could do.

I'd rather take a chance on Sessions (+ full training camp) to be honest. I put Jameer in the same category as Devin Harris. Good, but not great guards who made their names in the mid 2000's, when the talent level at PG was regrettably low. Over-hyped and overrated. To make matters worse they each suffered a major injury.

Sure, if he comes over cheap I'll take it. A rotation of Nelson/Sessions isn't bad. But at this point of their careers I wouldn't be surprised if Sessions started over him.

And don't think we'd be getting a guy who "got to the finals". That guy is Skip To My Lou.

Nelson would be the best PG this team has had in a long time. Loooong time.

He can create his own shot too, which is nice for a team that only had Kobe for that.

As for Lakers, Ramon Sessions, Kirk Hinrich, Jameer Nelson all said to be on radar. Potentially Jason Terry, too.
