I look at this thread and I still cannot believe how you concocted this deal in your head.

Reports are out that Melo wants to be dealt before the deadline. He knows everyone is blaming him for the Knicks losing all of a sudden, after Lin had them rolling.

Melo is at an all time low in value. So Bynum is clearly not the asking price since he's linked direclty to DHoward.

Other than Bynum, we don't have anything else they want.

But.... How about that Lin kid? He'd fit in nicely here.

Melo is a pseudo "star"..... just like Amare. They are great for fantasy teams but not championship ones.....

Not for me. Last year, I would have done it but Bynum is too good now ( and going forward ) and I have to ride with him.

I would take him on the squad though..not sure how we'd do it but I couldnt give up Big Bynum,

Actually let me rephrase that: HELL NO!

Melo's ball-stopping ways and his unwillingness to play and position himself the way D'Antoni wants makes him a cancer. It's no coincidence that the Knicks have gone downhill since his return. He did this to Karl as well. Uncoachable. Maybe Kobe can talk some sense into him, but only for the trash on the Lakers' roster.

It's rare that the team getting the superstar in a trade is not the one that got the best of the trade, but anyone should be able to see now that Denver ripped off the Knicks in this one.

Pau for Melo--- yes.


Bynum for Melo-- hell no.


If we could swing a deal for a PF like Milsap, I'd be all over Pau/Melo. But seeing as that'd give NY Pau/Amare/Chandler, I doubt they do it. He would be a terrific fit though as starting PF

That's actually an interesting comparison, because I think - as compared to MWP - almost everything Melo gave you on offense he'd give back on defense.

MWP's offense has been pretty spotty this season, but his defense is rounding into shape, and among MWP, Bynum and - to a lesser extent - Fisher, the Lakers field a pretty physical and for Bynum and MWP, intimidating team. Melo doesn't bring any of that "crazy" that MWP provides in large doses.

I would not do Pau for Melo. At all. Melo is a ball stopper, Pau is a ball mover. Also Melo would insist on setting up near the basket and the spacing won't work very well with what the Lakers would have on the floor with him.

If he comes with Chandler & a piece that brings us a starting PG, I absolutely send Bynum + Metta + Metta out for that package. I like Shumpert but I'm not sure if he helps us enough RIGHT NOW. I'm sure the Cavs would love a young guard like that for Sessions though, we might not even have to give up a pick.

We ride it out with Kobe & Pau & maybe deal Pau when he's expiring. Taking on Chandler's deal is a monster hit but he's not a bad player at all. He won't earn his paycheck but if we get to unload Metta & Luke I think it lessons the blow. After a ring or 2 I'm sure we could unload his contract.

Sessions/Kobe/Melo/Pau/Chandler

Maybe we throw the TPE for Beasley to guarantee a title?

It's a gamble financially but it's an absolute must if it's about winning basketball games.

No. We can give them Metta and Luke though. Maybe even Morris.

Just wait till they run out of patient, which should be the end of this week.

I don't follow the Knicks closely, but my recollection is that they were doing okay with Amare (can you beleive it, Amare helping a team win?); then Melo showed up and the chemistry was bad; then Melo went down and Lin stepped up and they played well, then Melo's back and they're lousy.

Couple all of that with Karl's joy at getting rid of Melo, and I'm not seeing anything that leads me to want Melo on the Lakers.

He's good at what he does.. and that's score a lot of meaningless points when it doesn't matter.

I'd be very disappointed to see Pau dealt for Melo..

What about a Carmelo Anthony for Luol Deng deal? Could this work. Still puts Melo in a big market, and puts an unselfish player like Deng on the Knicks.

If you can envision Rose and Melo sharing the ball, sure.

I was one of those that was in favor of a Bynum - Melo swap last year due to Bynum's injury history. At this stage Bynum is good enough that I'd gamble on his knees before trading him for Melo or a whole lot of other players for that matter.

In the Jeremy Lin thread in NBA Discussion I floated the idea of trading Pau for Melo due to the front office seemingly intent on trading Pau. I figured that if we're going to trade him, that would be the most value we can get. Would that make us better, probably not. Would it help New York? Absolutely.
