Mike D'Antoni Discussion: RESIGNS AS LAKERS COACH (184)

Re: Mike D'Antoni Discussion: "I was an idiot..." (155)

I think, TWC ratings going down in significant numbers, might pressure the Lakers to fire MDA.... the game threads are basically a ghost town, but that's not something that concerns the Lakers... it's the fact that they are losing money....

the management needs to realize that almost all the Laker fans can't stand MDA... he looks like a douchebag.

Why would they fire him now? To win games? :man3:

I think it's to save image, viewers not watching the game has something to do with MDA's coaching and his philosophy, no one wants to see this doofus of a coach change line-ups every game and put soft defenders like Kelly on the opponents best player....

even if we somehow fired him now... the new coach will bring better results... even if the loses still come aboard.

He's going to coach out his contract IMO.

Lakers fans can't stand watching a loser.. It doesn't matter if Phil was the head coach with Thibs as his assistant..

Nah, we're not really losing so many games because of him. He is just one of many factors right now. Besides, it is good for us to get a nice pick this year. It is our only change to draft a potential star player and it costs us next to nothing. MDA is going to finish this season for sure.

It's a fact that the Lakers are losing money? When was this announced? How are they losing money, aren't games still selling out? TV ratings going down doesn't equal the Lakers losing money, it's TWC possibly losing money, the Lakers already got their contract from TWC, no money is being lost. 'Antoni isn't getting fired right now, we such with or without him, I would suggest getting over it for now.

Doubt the poster you're referring to knew it but the TWC deal actually is partly incentive based, with the Lakers standing to lose 10-15% if we don't hit certain win & ratings thresholds. Can't find the particulars on the deal now but I remember it was 10-15% tied up in incentives.

I think he's a decent enough coach put into a bad situation, I mean we can definitely do worse. Does that make me pro-D'Antoni? :man11:

I think, MDA should win COTY for making us into a bad team in the most Important draft since 03..... we should have 6 wins at most right now, but Young and Meeks got hot earlier and lead us to victories.

All I'm gonna say at this time regarding our coach is that I'd rather have MDA than Mike Brown, no question about it.

This is just how I feel about the two of them.

That reminds me of that game "would you rather" - would you rather do one horrific thing or this other equally or maybe worse horrific thing. Like would you rather eat fried dog poo or would you rather suck the puss out of someone's oozing open wound?

The fact that we are even discussing two of the lamest Laker coaches and worst hirings in our history is truly depressing.

For my money, as clueless as Mike Brown was I'd rather have him because D' Antoni helped destroy Kobe's career IMO by letting him play all those minutes on that busted ankle. Now I'm not saying Mike Brown wouldn't have done the same thing. He ran Kobe into the ground as well. But in this case D' Antoni actually was the HC and the other guy wasn't at that point.

But really these two coaches are like two sides of the same coin. One guy has no idea of how to run an offense, and the other guy has no interest in defense. Either choice is a one-dimensional coach. Neither one are the caliber or the fit for our franchise long term.

I just want D' Antoni gone, just like I wanted Brown gone.

The laker FO's slide into mediocrity (taking the franchise down with them) reminds me of that line from Hemingway where, iirc, a character is asked how he lost his fortune. His answer? "Gradually, then suddenly."

As long as Jimbo calls the day-to-day shots, makes coaching hires, makes decisions as to which FA to pursue, or God forbid try to develop his own franchise "culture" and "philosophy," this franchise will wallow in the mud. He's be far better off designating someone else as operational head of the franchise, telling them that they have to win and be entertaining (but win, above all) and then get the hell out of the way and sign the checks when required to do so.

In the battle between ego and competence, ego always loses.

MDA exactly said this after the game:

"We played terrible defense in the first half with no energy. We did play better defense in the 2nd half but just couldn't make enough shots"

Are you kidding me????? WTF :disagree: :mad1:

Is that a joke? :man10: Maybe the orders to tank are coming from the FO now, because that's possibly the worst starting lineup we've had all season. Meeks at the 3, because....? What does this mean when Farmar gets back, he's backup SG, or is that Marshall? :man11:

Medina has to be kidding. That can't be the real lineup Pringles wants to start the game :bang:

That is possibly the worst lineup we can field with players kind of near there positions (Meeks at the 3? :disagree: )
