Lakers Rumors: T-Wolves Interested in Michael Beasley Sign-and-Trade?

Image

Written by Daniel Buerge on 06/06/2012 in News, Rumors

With the Los Angeles Lakers reportedly interested in making some moves during the off-season, there have been many names thrown around as people are trying to determine who they may or may not be interested.

One name that surfaced near the trade deadline last season was Minnesota Timberwolves forward Michael Beasley, who the Lakers were reportedly close to acquiring. Now, more reports have come out that the team is once again interested in the former number two overall pick. And, it also seems that the feels are mutual.

According to sources close to the Timberwolves organization, Minnesota General Manager David Kahn told team owner Glen Taylor that the team was interested in pursuing a sign-and-trade with the Lakers in July.

One name that the team is reportedly interested in is Jordan Hill – the backup big man who played well for the Lakers in limited minutes since being acquired from the Houston Rockets in March.

Beasley could help the Lakers’ small forward position, where they had some issues last season. With Matt Barnes not expected to return and an uncertain future facing Metta World Peace, expect the Lakers to consider this option if Kahn and Minnesota indeed come calling.

Minny can just sign Hill if they want to. They're under the cap. I don't see the point in doing a S&T. Players can't sign Full-Bird contracts in S&T's anymore under the new CBA. They can only sign 4 year deals like they would on the FA market. No 5 year deals. All they'd be doing in a S&T is helping us get Beasley.

bogus rumor made up by hack reporter. why would wolves deal with us to get hill when they can
just sign him themselves? Lakers are trying to keep or get guys like hill who are young , productive
and cheap. thats what exactly why we want beasley also.
In a perfect world moving forward the Lakers would love a front court with both of those players
around bynum.

Now that I think about it, the only reason the Wolves would do the trade is if cash was included. The Lakers can give them up to 3 million dollars in cash for a S&T with Beasley.

Jordan Hill should be kept if Pau or Bynum are traded. He's a decent power forward with good size and activity. Unfortunately we have no good pieces to do a sign and trade. I thought Beasley was an unrestricted free agent anyways.

It’s probably moreso about how much he’d be signed for; ie. $3.63 mil, as opposed to the ‘open-market’ value of a double-double guy like Jordan Hill.

give them McSocks/Cash instead.....I want to keep Hill, only big on this team thus far who actually had some success as disrupting PnR.

Interestingly, those wanting a ‘stretch-4’ ignore that McRoberts can shoot the 3. He did in Indiana.

McRoberts doesn't seem to fit our system & that's the reason behind his lack of usage.. But I'm sure Minne has no interest in him.. If we can get Beasley for Hill, we have to do it.. Ideally we'd have them both but that's just not realistic..

No it was a rumor by one of the staff at Lakers Nation. He didn't identify whether the "sources" were his, or whether he was glomming onto someone else's rumor.

In order to do that we would have to eat into the Odom TPE. Beasley will make 8 mill or so and Hill maybe 2 or 3.... that means we would have to use 5 or 6 mil of the TPE to make that trade happen...... we could have had Beasley at the deadline for about 1.5 million (pro-rated) of the TPE.... Seems bogus to me on the face of it and when you dig into it a little it's really hard to believe since we have made no comment whatsoever that we are using the TPE for anything other than cap relief.

Lakers Nation :nono2:
I follow those guys on Facebook, and holy crap they will do anything to get attention. They are constantly just making up rumors and trying to make controversy. Worse than ESPN.

This would be an amazing situation for us but...

Plus, I had a source tell me that they want to trade us Love for Pau straight up too. :man12:

If this deal is on the table then you do it. Simple. The brilliance of this is that you don't have to offer Pau while upgrading your roster; however, I don't believe it. What I do know is that the FO likes Beasley, and I do believe we're not done trying to acquire him. He's a decent defender, can score, and his only 24 years of age with more upside. I like him. He's a good bench piece. We'll see...
