Trade Rumor - Bynum/Gasol for Howard/Turkoglu/Nelson

We cannot amnesty either Turkoglu or Nelson if we acquire them via trade. We can only amnesty 1 player for the duration of the current CBA.

Ok well, then we still hate Luke and Metta so.........

Howard didn't take them anywhere.....
As for your crap parts....

Nelson: 16.7 ppg on 50% shooting....
Lewis: 17.7 ppg.... 40% from 3...
Turk: 16.8 ppg... hit several game winners that year....
Alston: 12.5 ppg...
Pietrus: 9.4 ppg
Lee: 8.4 ppg.

Their bench was well balanced and would kill our current bench.....

Unless you are talking bout actually "taking" them to to the finals in his SUV or something I think you might want to re-visit that year and look at that team a little harder. They had 3 All Stars and a very deep bench. Also look at just how Dwight did against our often criticized soft PF over 6 games....

That is not correct.

Amnesty can only be used one time during the entire length of the current CBA. Further, it can only be used on a player who was already on the team's roster at the beginning of this CBA. No trading for a bad contract and then amnestying that player. Cannot happen at all. So Lakers can only amnesty the active contracts that were there at the beginning of this season. Therefore Lakers are stuck with any bad contracts they take in trade. Which is why this particular trade is so odious in that it forces the Lakers to abandon their 2014 plan for a couple of players who aren't worth it. Jimmy has already said he feels Howard is not worth both Bynum and Gasol. So if they let both go, there needs to be something better than the bad contracts coming back with Howard in this scenario. If Orlando continues to hold out for this scenario, the Lakers should just go elsewhere. I happen to like the Gasol for Rondo scenario...

I speculated at the season's start that once we knew the team was not using the amnesty on Luke Walton, that they were saving it for a bigger target either this summer or the next summer. This makes sense in light of the new luxury tax regime that kicks in at the beginning of the 2013-14 season. Plus Fisher and Walton become worth more for their expiring contracts this summer. So ... Gasol's value is declining in front of our eyes, now is the time to trade him while the team can still get some value for him. If they don't trade him before the deadline, they will never get as much value for him again and he may be worth more to them as an amnesty candidate with some serious bang for the back in savings.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

I find it odd that all of these contracts expire by 2014. Right when kobes expires

I joked earlier but maybe they are eyeing a Dwight and Lebron pair up in LA in 2014

I'd jump ship to the Lakeshow in 2014 if I were Lebron..By then Kobe is retired or almost retired and no superstar wing player

two guys that can't close worth a damn in the 4th quarter? A 90 year old Kobe might have to bail them out.

Exactly my point. By 2014 the oft injured wade is 33 going on 34. And we know bosh is nothing to write home about.

Think about it. Dwight Howard sittig here with no one else pluggig up the cap. Lebron James may jump right to LA

Not sure I'd like it all I'm saying is I see it happening

They would put people in the seats though, so he's right I can see the Lakers at least looking that far ahead and considering that option or keeping themselves open to it. Making money, keeping the arena full, is really the main priority of a franchise, it allows you money to put towards trying to win. Plus, those guys can't close right now, but who knows, by then they might be able to do so, that's a few years off.

^If this is the Lakers "rebuilding" plan, I doubt they'd want a 30-year-old LeBron. They'd go for a new, rising star. At least, that's what I would assume anyway.

Seriously though, this trade is somehow so awesome for Orlando. How is that even possible?

Orlando Magic

PG: Calderon/Duhon
SG: Richardson/Redick
SF: Quentin/????
PF: Gasol/Anderson
C: Bynum/Gasol

Star player demands a trade and they end up with a pretty good roster while getting rid of Hedo?

But the 2014 can still happen without giving up Pau.

I think if that Rondo trade is available, you do it an eliminate Orlando's bargaining power. Get Beasley with the TPE and basically tell Orlando, "You can get Bynum and a first, or you can watch him walk to Dallas for nothing. We have Bynum, Kobe, Rondo and Beasely. We can make a deep run with what we got."

And if we had Rondo, Beasely and Kobe, Dwight doesnt walk away from that, especially when you consider that come 2014, Kobe comes off the books and you have a max slot available (since Rondo's contract is pretty friendly). Kevin Love or Lebron James teamed with Dwight and Rondo and a twilight Kobe who would likely sign for less.

Have fun league.

I try to find weird coincidences sometimes. Just weird that Lebron can opt out in 2014, right when kobes contract expires, right when every contract on our roster even with this trade ends in 2014.

Lebron has also talked about our cap space before back in 2005 which makes me think we have been on his mind before

Way too good of a deal for Orlando. I want Ryan Anderson if we're taking on Hedo & Jameer. They're not going to match the offers he gets anyway, with Bynum & Gasol starting.

If we can't get Anderson.. I'd prefer to deal Pau for the best PG we can get (probably Rondo) & get Beasley for the TPE + Dallas 1st. When it comes time for the Magic to decide between Lopez + Picks or Bynum + 1st + whatever else they want, maybe we send Luke & Fisher's deals that will be expiring next season & take on Hedo. Or maybe that's why we want JO's expiring, to give Orlando that cap relief. I just can't see them taking Lopez over Bynum when it comes down to it. We need to cash our chips in so they stop asking for them all.

Rondo Kobe Beasley Bynum(Howard?).. Guys like Kapono, Murphy, Blake & Glock become much more valuable on a team like that. If Metta ever finds his shot Rondo will give him the ball when & where he wants it.. We really don't have anyone who can penetrate with the exception of Kobe & lets face it, the less time he spends in the paint the better off we are. He can't take those bumps forever.

deal may be march 1st because orlando wants to trade J rich and big baby for jose calderon?

think about it you get drew and pau to go with anderson what use is big baby, and with reddick and richardson producing similar numbers why pay j-rich for the next 4 years when reddick is doing similar things

makes sense. big baby and richardson for calderon. but richardson and big baby can't be traded until march 1st.

A line up of Andrew, Pau, Ryan Anderson and Calderon can seriously do damage. Orlando gets a good deal on both sides this way.

And I'm saying if one of your twitter friends tweeted this they're probably screwing with you, or if it's just some random guy he's messing with people. Again, if an LA Times guy, an OC Register writer, or a Lakers reporter didn't tweet about it, most likely didn't happen, because they'd be all over it if it did, especially since the guy NEVER speaks publicly.

I would like this deal alot better if we're getting Richardson, Nelson & Big Baby instead of Hedo. I'm sure the Raps are willing to give Hedo a chance it worked out so well last time :man12:
