If Fish retires after this season it would be great if the LFO decide to consider him as a new coach. He is true Laker, also he played under the Phil so many years, he is great with Mamba and also the fans love him. What do you guys think??

I think Fisher would need a few seasons to get coaching down before I just give him the keys. See: Jason Kidd.

Yep. But there is NO reason he shouldn't be on the staff as an assistant coach. Player development at the VERY least. I also like Nash as a player development coach.

Yeah I'm fine with both of those decisions. I think Fisher will make a great coach one day, but he needs to learn the ropes first.

Dreaming a little bigger - I want a coach that can make good in-game and between game adjustments. Re-watching the 2009 Finals once again gave me an appreciation of how important it is for the coach to have the ability to make changes and rectify mistakes on the fly.

For the record, they went 7-0 on games after losses with a nearly +16 PPG differential and Kobe averaging 30 PPG in those 7 games.

Just preferably no more coaches that have a first name of Mike, for the time being, please...

I want DFish in the front office and maybe running the organization. As former head of the Players' Association, he is well-experienced to address the budgetary and cap issues. Let Mitch focus full-time on personnel issues.

I'll take Scott, Rambo, a Van Gundy, whoever. Thibs would be ultimate but he's under contract so I don't see that happening. Just get this buffoon out of here. Let Rambo take over as interim.

Just get a better coach next year. Doesn't have to be the best of all time, but a balanced coach who is actually capable of coaching both sides of the ball - offense and D. Please. No more lopsided coaches. And NOT Mike Dunleavy. We can't take another Mike. :bang:

Oh, you mean like Rick Carlisle and Pop. Pop with an older albeit talented core has the Spurs in the top 3 in the West seemingly every year; and take a look at what Carlisle has done this year...he has an aging Dirk who is still playing great but aside the the only 'superstar', Monta Ellis, and decent role players; they're now 12 games over .500...and I know everything that has gone wrong this year; however, we still need a change in the HC department in the worst way. He's a joke.

The coaches listed are all poor choices. All are hugely flawed. Carl and SVG are probably the best of those listed, but neither one excites me. If the next coach came from that list just remember that Carl is a UNC alum, and Mitch may advocate for him a little harder because all those former Tarheels really pull for one another (in fact, this may have clouded Mitch K's judgement when it was said that he wanted to draft Scott May out of UNC, when many, many people saw that May had huge red flags coming out on UNC.

Carl is an okay coach. Above average. He ;ikes his teams to run up and down and shoot the rock. But he's had an iffy run through the play-offs, and I think he's slowed down in recent years because of the cancer scare. Id pass.

I think Lionel Hollins would be a better fit than those guys who are listed. Still young. Was a very solid pro. has a good coaching pedigree (he plays for Jack Ramsey on Portland). He seems to value both sides of the ball, and understands that current trends notwithstanding, interior post play is still important. And he doesn't take any crap from players. He commands respect. The FO could do a lot worse than Hollins.

^^ I'd love to see Hollins here. He's the kind of balanced coach I'm talking about. Nice to see his name getting some play here at CL.

Posted this in another thread but it belongs here too.
Chillbongo wrote:We need to go with someone who has a winning pedigree. Someone who has won it all in the NBA. I want a guy who knows how to get it done.

We won't snag one of the coveted coaches who are already employed. So who are we left with? I like what George Karl has done in his career but he has seen too much turnover in his lengthy career for me to believe in him.

Which leaves me with two options.

Lionel Hollins. Hollins won a chip as a player and was an outstanding defender. I'm guessing he knows a thing or two about defense and what it takes for a team to win. The other option is an unknown. I'm honestly tempted to go this route, but I fear that Kobe will overstep his boundaries. So it has to be someone he respects. I don't think Derek Fisher is quite ready for the job yet - but if we can get him as the lead assistant for this coach, that would help alleviate a bit of the Kobe issue. I don't know who this unknown is, but I don't want to go the Brad Stevens route a la Foston. I want someone with NBA experience. Is it Mark Madsen? Maybe. Not sold on him.

What I am sold on is that we need to absolutely nail this next coaching hire.
