Who's the next Laker coach? (NEW POLL, VOTE FOR 2!)

Postby LakerJack on Sun Jan 26, 2014 5:05 pm

Obviously D needs to go. Lakers will have a lottery pick, big free agent and Kobe. Who will be the top candidates to coach these guys?
I would pick Byron Scott. Took a young Nets team to the finals and knows about rebuilding.
Other legit candidates?
All time Lakers team: Magic, Kobe, West, Worthy and Chamberlain.

No to Scott. Absolutely not.

Van Gundy brothers have my vote.

I'd love one of the "defensive minded" coaches but I'm pretty sure Jimmy, like his dad, wants uptempo and high scoring back to stay in Laker Land.

My guess for the "next" guy is George Karl. Another "name" with some success behind him and a pretty keen offensive coach. He used to push defense back in the day as well.....

He likes athletic guys that pass and drive to the rim. No long 2pt shots. D is about constant effort and constant pressure. If Pau and Nash are gone then I think he might be good, especially considering some of the talent we've talked about being after.

What makes people think the Bulls are gonna let Thibbs go? he is taking his team to the playoffs for the 2nd year without Rose and a traded Deng.... he is the COTY right now.....

I also wouldn't mind if we talked into Coach K coaching the team next year.

Thibs would be my choice. He's gone on record, as saying he's trying to emulate what Phil Jackson does, so I admire him for that. Add in the fact that he is a defensive specialist as a coach, and I think that sews up the discussion.
I would like to see Phil in a front office position with the Lakers, Tom Thibodeau hired as head coach, the Lakers tank and get the #1 pick(Joel Embiid).

def not byron scott
george karl if you only want overachieving regular seasons followed by terrible postseason finishes
brian shaw would be nice but he's on a 3 year contract

if thibs is really on the block, he has to be a priority
sloan and either van gundy would be next on the list

Scott only makes sense if we're trying to continue the Showtime 2.0 experiment. I think we need to move on from that.

If SVG is available, pick him up. Ditto with Thibs.

Sloan would be nice, but he is probably not coming back to coaching. He's old.

Thibs is most likely not going to be available.

Thibs is probably the only coach that could potentially come available that's worth firing MDA over. Doc isn't going anywhere anytime soon & Pop won't ever coach a different team.. George Karl & either of the Van Gundy's wouldn't be big enough upgrades to justify the change.. I think Byron Scott would be a downgrade. If we let D'antoni go & can't get Thibs I would hope we give Phil a front office role & have 1 of his assistants as the puppet coach on the sidelines with Phil calling the shots.

That would likely mean going back to triangle, which is probably not going to happen again.

Don't know, don't care as long as Derek Fisher is on the staff as an assistant coach.

it's going to depend on who we bring in via FA/draft.

if we're looking to contend ASAP, then a proven coach is the priority.

however, if we're going through a complete overhaul and youth movement, then we can go after a more unknown coach (maybe someone off of pop's/carlisle's group.

If Thibs became available, then he is BY FAR the best choice. I honestly consider him as a very close #2 to Pop. Give that guy the right pieces and he's going to turn in a dynasty.

Assuming he's not available, I'm not crazy about anyone but who knows what Jimmy is thinking.

if thibodeau is available, he is easily the first choice. scott would be a terrible pick

Kurt Rambis.
Immediately.
Did D'AnDummy really think that Ryan Kelly was going to be able to stop Melo, but he put Ryan on him any, in the last minutes. Cost the Lakers the game.

Anybody would be an improvement over this bum . . . except Dunleavy. :man10:

I'll take Scott, Rambo, a Van Gundy, whoever. Thibs would be ultimate but he's under contract so I don't see that happening. Just get this buffoon out of here. Let Rambo take over as interim.
