Channing Frye

I definitely hope Lamar resigns. He has grown a lot over the last couple of years. However, if we can't get it done, how about Channing Frye? I remember a few years back Phil being very interested in the guy. He is being talked about with the Cavs and Spurs but he may be had for the LLE.

Did he not intend to sign with the Suns?

He's young so he'll probably be overpaid.

We don't have the BAE, it appears. Looks like we used it on Shannon Brown.

At any rate, I cannot imagine that Frye makes only $2m per year.

no thanks...never a fan of his.

He is just a midrange shooter and can't do anything else...can't defend, rebound, pass or do anything.

Josh Powell is pretty much the same type of player. Frye is more polished but Powell is good enaugh for me as a backup.

Are you sure about the BAE? I read on SI.com that we still had it but it didn't make since with the deal we gave Shannon. They said we resigned Shannon and were waiting on Odom but that if he didn't sign all we would have is the BAE to sign someone with. Was the reporter wrong or do we still have the BAE anyone know.

http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-lak ... 7762.story

The Lakers learned a bit more about their future Monday by agreeing to terms on a contract with Shannon Brown, though Lamar Odom remained far apart in negotiations with the team that employed him the last five seasons.

On a day in which Kobe Bryant spoke out on a variety of topics, including his own contract, the Lakers pared their unrestricted free agents down to one after Brown agreed to take $4.2 million over the next two years, with the second year his option.

The reserve guard will be back with the Lakers, but there has been no movement on Odom, one of the last big-name free agents still seeking a home. Odom was on the Lakers' books for $14.1 million last season, but the Lakers are balking at his asking price of more than $10 million a season.

"There's really nothing to report," said a source familiar with the negotiations who wasn't authorized to talk publicly.

If the Lakers don't get Odom, whom they can basically sign without regard to the salary cap, their only other spending tool of note is the "biannual exception," in which teams over the salary cap can sign a free agent to a two-year contract starting at $1.99 million next season.

I can't believe New York chose him before Bynum.

I can't believe some were disappointed with that.

He did quite well in his rookie year, to bad he didn't get a chance to play in Por. I dont think he's a scrub.

Not I. I thought the dude was just SLIGHTLY less soft than Loren Woods when he came out. There was debate about it here on CL. Now we know who's right. LOL.

Choosing Frye over Bynum in the draft wasn't a bad decision at all given the circumstances.

Lets see: Channing Frye was a proven stud in college leading Arizona to the elite eight (and on the brink of the final four had arizona not blew a 15 pt lead to illinois in the last few mins of the game). Bynum, on the other hand, was a raw 7 footer that played 30 games of high school ball that also tore his acl during that time.

Frye was the safer bet.

Hah. In all fairness....the U of A has produced some good to decent guards over the years.

Kerr, Damon, Bibby, Terry and Gilbert.

It's just the 3, 4 and 5 positions that have not produced much. I can only recall, Jefferson and Beuchler (a decent reserve for Da Bullz.)

I don't KNOW that we used the BAE, but it looks like either we used it or something weird happened with Shannon's contract. There were rumors about a Qualifying Offer. So I guess only a few people really know what went on there.
