It's not yet clear if Doug Christie will be released by the Orlando Magic via the amnesty clause or whether he'll be able to negotiate a buyout of the one year (at $8.2 million) left on his contract. What is clear, according to NBA front-office sources, is that the Christies (mandatory reference to wife Jackie) plan and hope to be in Dallas next season if Doug can extricate himself from the Magic. It remains to be seen how much Christie can still contribute after ongoing foot problems, but he's remembered in Big D for his dogged defense on Nash in more than one Sacramento-Dallas series.

When Doug was a Laker we did everything we could to turn him into a point guard and it just didn't work out. He turned the ball over way too often.

I'm not even sure if the Kings want him anymore, quite frankly. He used to be a very complete player, with scoring, passing, rebounding, stealing, defense, athleticism, etc...but ever since his scoring went down first, all of his numbers have really taken a plunge. He's pretty much ineffective especially with his injuries, and even Orlando had a hard time meshing him into their lineup. I actually think it's a combination that Doug's heartbroken by being traded, and that he's just simply getting old. I see a more Jon Barry-like role for him in the future.
