Is this brown deal officially done?

I hope not because i think we could still get a better player than Kwame. Me personally, i would try and trade butler to denver for Nene. I'd throw in our 2006 first round and butler plus one of our expiring k's. Nene is way better than Brown.

butler for nene was offered this season and kiki turned it down. Denver with melo has no need for a 3.

As far as the deal being done, so reports the LA times, we will just have to wait and see...

Why the heck would they trade Nene for Butler when they have Carmello? Get real

I think its an awesome trade because it only makes our frontcourt bigger and stronger our backcourt is good but we still need a PG?? Plus why would we go and try to get some expensive player if we're trying to be under the cap by the 2007 season when Amare is a Free Agent! (im not sure restricted or unrestricted though?? )

Guys I live in LA and love the lakers...now I couldnt help but sign on after the Lakers got Kwame.
I've been a Wizards fan (my fav team) for 6 years now and have seen Kwame numerous time, read all the report etc. This is a great trade for the Lakers (and the wiz are my fav team for now)

This trade is going to be a MAJOR steal. Kwame has never been given a chance, and if you guys know the Wizards as well as I do, Eddie Jordan had a personal thing against Kwame (for whatever reason). He favored the Arenas/Hughes...and set up NO plays for the bigs. Kwame and Haywood would barely get ANY touches. From time to time he benched Kwame for no apparent reason other than a bad TO. This guy is 7'0 at least and can play the PF/C. The guy is a monster, and hes QUICK. People dont know how fast this guy is. I've seen plays where Kwame dribbleed hard to the basket from the 3 point line, and just straight up jammed on bigs (i know its just dunks but he jammed hard on Mihm last year...and did the move i described against the bulls in the playoffs). He has a solid jumper near the basket, and is athletic as they come. One problem is that his hands are small and can't throw it down as well due to it.

We've all read the stats on Kwame when he gets consistent numbers, and a decent number of shots. People also forget what kind of great individual defense he plays. He does struggle on helping the guards when they get beat, but 1:1 against Brand, Garnett, Duncan, Dirk...Kwame can play solid against them. He is big enough for Brand/Duncan...and quick enough for everyone else.

I know everyone loves Butler (I like him too...shoot his story on leno, on fox sports were great) but the fact is he is a SF. Most of you really like J. Jones, and love Walton...and no offense to Butler but I think Jones/Walton may not score as much...but bring much better 3 point shoot, defense, and passing. We just signed Walton for 2 years (and cheap) so there is no reason for Butler. And like many of you said, the guy is going to get a big contract next year (so what is the point of having him for 1 year when we can get a young, talented 7'0 for the next 5-6 years???). He made some horrible TO's last year and played carelessly at times in passing, and his dribbling is NOT good enough to play pg.

I dont think you guys fully understand how badly Collins/MJ treated him (im the biggest mj fan). The guy was 18 and was forced to produce right away. And what about after MJ left you ask? He got unlucky with a coach (EJ) who favors the guards and gave Kwame/Haywood JACK number of plays when he knows they can score.

Lets take the worst case scenario and say Kwame doesnt improve. He will still give you around 9 and 7 in 25 minutes or so. His defense is solid, and with Mihm/Odom/Turiaf he is going to be great. But he WILL improve and will average around 13 and 7 without a doubt

No. You need to say a whole lot more...such as why it's a dumb trade. Plus, you should wait until it's decided whether it's Chucky or George. Yes. I think it's a great trade...but I'd rather trade Chucky than George though. I like the guy, and plus he is experienced in the triangle. He and JJ would be excellent backups for Kobe and LO.

u keep george instead of atkins for sure...atkins=sasha....we alredy got sasha...like Mark McNamara sed george knows the triangle...and maybe we can play george as our backup shooting guard...

First of all, if we don't get AD then we have Sasha and umm...Smush Parker at PG? I didn't think it possible but that's a worse tandem than Atkins/Brown.

Second of all, if we get AD, then I still don't know that I want Sasha at backup. Atkins would be a very good backup.

George is totally redundant on the team. He is an inferior version of Jumaine Jones, especially on D.

i actually wish we could give them sasha in stead of chucky.. dont get me wrong i dislike chucky but he is clutch, and can shoot.. more of what i can say about sasha's game.. i am sure salarys dont work tho..

Kwame's QO was 6.9 million. Butler is like 2 or 2.4 I think. Sasha is maybe a million...so you're right that it wouldn't work. It has to be like 3 to 8 million in contracts that we send for Kwame if he gets the 6.9.

Although I love butler and what he brings to the team, this trade is one of the smarter deals Mitch has been able to pull off. We are filling a big need in the low post with a F, potential C. Kwame hasn't been givin the proper opportunity to show what he is capable of achieving in Washington and is going to surprise many out west.

The Laker back court in 04-05 was one of the worst I've ever seen (minus #8), I was very surprised with the fact that opponents weren't applying back court pressure 24/7 on us. Last year was the definition of a rebuilding year and should in part be referred to anytime an NBA team is in the supposed "rebuilding" structure, "the 04-05 Lakes" structure.

I would say its almost a guarantee that Antonio is coming to the LAL, not only does he want to play for us but Phil loves big point guards. Nothing taken away from 23/33 but I think this year looks very reminiscent of Phils old team. We'll hear about the Harper/Jordan/Pippen and Antonio/Kobe/Lamar roster comparison for years to come, and hopefully the an equivalency or more rings.

No, Sasha does not equal Atkins. Atkins can score. Sasha can't. Atkins will most likely stay. George will be gone.

don`t you think we should have also gotten steve blake or juan dixon with kwame or maybe a second round pick?

Scoop Jackson said it was a good trade for both sides, i was pretty skeptical about trading caron but in the end it isn`t that bad.
