Veteran Minimum Signing Ideas

Veteran Minimum Signing Ideas

Postby TheGM on Thu Jul 30, 2009 11:59 pm

Now that LO and Artest have both been signed to deals lower than Buss probably expected, I wonder if the Lakers will now decide to carry a full roster, if so I would like to see the Lakers add:

Rashad McCants - very good perimeter shooter, still young with major upside and might replace Sasha as a the backup SG.

Rodney Carney - not a great player, but still young and could develop into a perimeter defender.

Joe Smith - you can never have too much depth and it keeps him off another contender.

Glad you made this thread. I don't expect us to sign any more guys, but if we do there's still some decent talent available.

I think Carney can get more than the minimum, but if we could somehow land him for that cheap, I'd be elated with happiness.

Jerry Stackhouse is still out there too if he's not too banged up.

I'd rather make a serious push for Smith. I love DJ and Powell, but the more bigs the better.

Or Jerry if he'd like a ring before he's officially done.

I doubt the Lakers even keep him for the season. He'll be gone somehow.

If we do anything I think it will be a trade not a vet min signing. I think Sasha and Luke are possible players that could be moved before the trade deadline. If either of them play well for the start of the season I see them being shipped out for exp contracts.

Add Mike Taylor to the list ... just got waived by the Clippers for no reason.

Iverrrrson.

He'd cower to Kobe and Phil and be a friggen' beast like PG with actual speed. No need to wing up shots, he can pass he's just never had too until now. Tired of watching Kobe drop to the PG spot to "facilitate" because we have no real PG.

I doubt we sign anyone. But here would be my ranked preference list:

Bigs - Joe Smith, Leon Powe, Shelden Williams

Wings - Rodney Carney, Ime Udoka, Keith Bogans, Desmond Mason, Flip Murray

There's a good chance some of those perimeter guys could get more than the minimum. But a lot of teams are out of cash and the chance to play for a championship team for a year will help their value and they can try the market again next summer.

Expect a real PG dones't work in the triangle offense.

Looking at the list of free agents

it's not very promising

i'd just stick with the team we have now

I wouldn't even trade ammo's expiring at this point

^^^I wouldn't mind getting an early 2nd rder from someone for Ammo straight up....almost like getting a late 1st, given Mitch track record of late with finding gems who know :man12: , besides dropping Ammo could mean an open spot for useful vet later on in the year looking for a ring.

Not quite true.

A real PG is not required, but that doesn't meant that they don't work in the offense.
