What about this Laker / Portland rumor (started by me)...

Postby Jello Jiggler on Wed Jun 29, 2005 9:45 am

Okay.....I'll play Insider for 1 day. What if the Lakers and Portland are in the works for a trade. Why you ask? Let's look at the possible signs:

1) Only Portland and the Lakers have worked out Bynum numerous times. Is it possible that the Lakers picked up Bynum to ship to Portland?

2) Portland has several guards. Why draft Jarrett Jack? He is long rumored to possibly go to the Lakers because of his size and defense (like a Fisher clone).

3) Mitch is said to covet a High schooler. Yes, he drafted Bynum but what if he wanted Webster all along.... Portland said to have loved Bynum

4) Phil is signed for only 3 years. For all the Bynum optimist out there, maybe Bynum will make a serious impact ........on Phil's LAST year.

So here is my rumor.... (again just humor me on this one)

Lakers / Blazers Trade:

Blazers get :
Bynum
Caron Butler
expiring contracts to match

Lakers get:
Martell Webster
Theo Ratliff
Ruben Patterson + other disaster contracts

Who knows.... Jack makes no sense. Bynum (albeit high potential) makes no sense given Phils contract length.

Just waiting for any Insiders for the news. So what do you think of my GM scenario??

I don't think the Lakers would want to take on the contracts of Ratliff or Patterson. They just got the center of the future and Ratliff is going to retire soon and he is a far cry from where he was, I mean, JOEL PRYZBILLA beat him out for starting center...

Yeah, i had a similar feeling about a possible trade with Portland.

I'm still a little perplexed as to why they took Jack, and I'm hoping it was for us!

Hmm… interesting idea. 1540 radio has been talking about Bynum being packaged in a trade all afternoon. The rumor is based on what Jim Harrick (a Denver Nuggets scout) said in an interview earlier today on the same station.

See this post of mine on LG http://forums.lakersground.net/viewtopic.php?t=3234

I'm totally against trading Bynum for the record. The rest of it sounds good.

Jim Harrick is just starting rumors. Totally unfounded.

This just in, Miami is thinking of trading Shaq to us for Bynum and expiring contracts.....

How about:

PG Chucky Atkins
SF Jumaine Jones
2006 First Round Pick (Via Miami)

for

PG Jarrett Jack
SF Ruben Patterson

I think Portland would do it. They already have 4 PGs (Mighty Mouse, Nick Van Quick, Telfair, and Jack.) They're not going to let Jack start and they don't want to bruise Telfair's ego by putting Jack ahead of him on the depth chart. They also get rid of Ruben's contract, and acquire what will likely be a mid to high 20s pick in next years draft, for players they won't use. The Lakers get rid of the locker room nightmare for Kobe that is Chucky and gain a big and strong PG in Jack. They basically get the same player back for Jumaine in Ruben (although his contract is significantly larger.) Chucky's contract is sizeable and will expire next season, making him attractive for the Blazers. They could basically use him as a 3 point specialist. Jumaine is the backup SF that they need, his has good character. I think Portland would have to seriously consider this trade, and would probably pull the trigger.

I had nothing to do with it!!! :man1:

Maybe another rumor of mine might come to fruition if I think (or smoke) hard enough:

How about:

Lakers get:
(#4 pick) Paul
Maglore
PJ Brown

Hornets get:
Bynum
Caron
cap filler

Lakers lineup:

PG Paul
SG Bryant
SF Odom
PF Maglore
C Mihm/Brown

Mitch was just on 1540 and totally denied it. He said he could think of a scenario that he would trade Bynum. He said true centers are too rare a commodity in this league. So I'm happy about that. He did say we need to add another big right now, because Bynum probably won't play much, if at all, next season.

I'm sorry but, I'm just not buying that Bynum won't play much next year. I think we are going to be seeing a lot of him, probably anywhere from 15-20 minutes a game. I think after seeing Chris Mihm disappear at the end of games, the Lakers might play Chris at the beginning and ends of games, and let Bynum get his during the middle. 15-20 minutes gives him plenty of experience, but doesn't rush him into the game a la Kwame Brown.

i was thinking of a package like this. Pre draft rumors about a disgrintled all star. Lakers and Port both work Bynum out multiple times, Phil's contract, all the signs... etc.

so here we go

Portland trades Reef=disgruntled? Jack= portland has telefair, staudimire (a great fit if Porter coaches in port.)

lakers send Bynum, Caron, and expiring contracts

lthis would be my version of a trade with Portland i think both sides would benefit from.

I think this trade idea has merit. :man10:

Here's what I'm hearing:

Sources tell me LA will either sign a top FA (Webber, Rose, Ratliff) or they won't sign a top FA (webber, Rose, Ratliff).

Scottie Pippen is due to sign as asst coach in the next few days. If he doesn't, it'll be later or he won't be hired. Either way, we'll know something before the season starts.

Brian Grant might be bought out. I'm also hearing he'll play out the year in hopes of a trade at a later date.

Phil Jax wasn't excited about the drafting of Bynum, but he's excited about his potential and looking forward to having him on the team.

Expect to see Butler at PG this year, assuming he's still on the team. If he stays on the team, he might still back up Odom and Kobe.

My best source tells me "the trade" is still on, but he's not as sure as he once was. he'd put the odds at 50/50. Should know something "soon." Please be patient.

Ahhhhh...... the art of saying nothing and being right no matter what.

i like that idea by slomo24 thats a bad a$$ idea that would be great maybe after that trade we can use R. Patterson for trade bait for an alright Rook i dont think we should trade Butler though! the reserves arent that great so we can use that too to trade!! Jack would be a nice addition to the Lakers. Im all up for Bynum! a ? for Turiaf and his butter fingers and ?????? for Wafer yo check it out i heard that this Wafer guy came 2nd to Lebron James in a dunk contest!! :man4:

I don't think Bynum is going anywhere, Mitch wants to make the first good draft of his life, he will wait for this kid to pan out. I think we got ourselves a good pick, I am predicting that this project will be a very good center in the league...in say 4 years. But for the time being, he is better than nothing, will be learning, and slowly getting better and better, and he can't be anywhere near as bad as Mihm is on the road.
