Who can we get in deals centered around Kwame?

Who can we get in deals centered around Kwame?

Postby THE_DAGGER on Tue Jul 31, 2007 9:35 pm

A blockbuster deal for a big name player is seeming less and less likely at this point.

And if a blockbuster type deal isn't going to go down, then Lamar and Bynum are not going to be moved.

That leaves Kwame as our biggest trade piece in making a move that might not make us instant title contenders, but improves our team.

What realistic trade scenarios with Kwame as the center-piece do you guys have in mind that will help make our team better?

I haven't really looked at multi-team trades. But, some straight up trades I thought of were:

Kwame, Farmar, and Evans for Bobby Simmons and Charlie Bell (S&T)

Bobby Simmons is a risk, he missed all of last season with ankle and foot surgeries. He makes about $9.3M this year, $9.9M next year, and $10.6 the year after that.

But, from what I remember of him, he was a really good two-way player. Over 40% from 3. 45% from the field. Over 80% from the line. Averaged about 15 ppg, 5 rpg, 3, apg, and 1spg. Could play the 2 or 3.

If he can be the player he once was, he'd be a nice 3rd option for us after Kobe and Lamar.

Alot of us had our eyes on Charlie Bell this summer. With their recent signing of Mason, we might still be able get him in a S&T with the Bucks. They could sign him for about a $3M a year contract and essentially trade him for Evans and Farmar.

Fisher, Crittenton, Sasha
Kobe, Bell
Simmons, Luke, Vlad
Lamar, Turiaf, Cook
Bynum, Mihm

I also had some trade ideas that centered around Kwame for Ricky Davis. (We couldn't get KG from Minnesota, but we might be able to get something from them after all.)

One scenario, that I actually found posted by a T-Wolves fan on RealGM, is:

Kwame, Sasha, and Evans for Davis and Jaric

I actually liked the deal. Jaric can play the 1, 2, 3. Good passer and surprisingly good defender. Davis, despite some attitude issues, is actually a great all around player. He can score, rebound, and dish. He can defend (when motivated). Shoots really good percentages.

Fisher, Farmar, Crittenton
Kobe, Jaric
Davis, Luke, Vlad
Lamar, Turiaf, Cook
Bynum, Mihm

But, my twist on that trade is:

Kwame, Farmar, and Evans for Davis, Hassell, and Madsen

Fisher, Crittenton, Sasha
Kobe, Hassell
Davis, Luke, Vlad
Lamar, Turiaf, Cook
Bynum, Mihm, Madsen

While Jaric has surprisingly good defense, Hassell was once known as a defensive stopper in this league. He has good b-ball IQ and would be great for the team.

Along with Hassell and Davis, we'd get the return of the Mad Dog :mhihi: .

Him and Turiaf would be a mess out there. But, a wonderful mess.

I like all of your ideas but i just dont see them happening. After this KG boston deal, I would have to imagine Mitch is going to pull some sort of trigger. I think..

Do some of you people think before you type? Worse yet, do you think your funny?

Some of you people just to need to shut the [Swearing is not permitted at Clublakers. You must edit this post prior to submitting.] up until you calm down, and let this whole KG thing sink in. It's getting ridiculous.

I agree with this approach. We need to take advantage of Kwame's expiring contract, and the fact we no longer desperately need Farmar. I'm really not sure who all is on the market right now though.

I can't see Ricky Davis on a Phil Jackson coached team. He's similar to Isaiah Rider and that obviously didn't go well.

I'm afraid Kwame's value won't be appreciated by other teams until later in the season. If a veteragn big on a playoff-bound team goes down, then Kwame and his 7-foot frame and solid man defense (not to mention attractive 9 mil expiring K) might be in some demand.

But now, in the summer...he's just a #1 bust with butter fingers coming off another injury.

I don't like any of those deals. Simmons and Bell? I'd rather have Luke start than that injured one year wonder. Plus we have enough G's, so I'll pass on Bell too. I like Davis, but I don't know how he'd fit in the tri because he's a little (or really) wild.

We just saw 2 Celts help eachother's cause, it's time for 2 Lakers to help eachother's cause. West needs to advise the Grizz to trade us Pau for Kwame's expiring contract and youth.

Kwame/Crit/Farmar/Turiaf for Pau

Our lineup:
Bynum/Mihm
Pau/Cook
LO/Luke/Vlad
Kobe/Evans
Fish/Sasha

I know, it's not realistic.

You know, this sounds plausible. Kwame provides defense from a big man, which Sacramento is sorely lacking in, plus to boot he's an expiring contract. And Sacramento might see Crittendon as a possible successor to Bibby. Who knows if they liked him in the draft at all though. It does just strike me to have a right mix of talent and contracts after you factor in how Artest's issues downgrade his trade value and the value of just getting rid of him in the first place. Maybe the Maloofs butt in and nix a deal that could help the Lakers but maybe in a perverse way, they take the chance that Artest blows up in the wrong way in LA.

No way do the Lakers trade both Farmar and Crittendon but it's also unlikely the Grizzlies even want any more point guards unless it's Deron Williams or Chris Paul since they have Mike Conley and Kyle Lowry (who is a very good prospect by the way, a bulldog of a point). To get Pau, it's going to take at least Bynum. The Celtics did give up Jefferson after all.

A good player that is a malcontent/player on a crappy team with 3+ years on his deal.

Maggette? :man10:
Ricky Davis? :man10:
Andre Miller? :man10:

It's slim pickings.

There is nothing funny about Andre Miller at all.

The Sixers greatly improved the minute they added Miller. The joke around Philly was they should have kept Iverson so that they could have had a crappy season and gotten Oden or Durant.

Andre Miller makes other players better. I'd love him as a Laker.

Andre Miller had a HUGE positive impact the second he was on the Sixers. However, I thought that organization has already made comments to the effect of them wanting to keep him? Also, we already have millions of PGs.

Meh, Miller can always demand out since they are really in a rebuilding mode.

They are kinda screwed salary cap wise.

As for our PG situation, I'll be happy to ship out Farmar and Kwame to get him.

Crittenton is 6'5 and IMO is better served being groomed as a 2guard that can play to allow Kobe to move to the 3. Critt's talent is penetration and scoring, not passing IMO.

The question is, would the Sixers even be willing to negotiate with us?

How would a passing PG like Andre Miller fit into the triangle? As of so far, no Phil Jackson point guard has ever gotten a lot of assists. Gary Payton is the all time leader with 5.5. Andre Miller is more of a fast break type of player. Would Phil be willing to let this team run more? Are we built to run with unathletic players such as Luke Walton?

Perhaps we could have team one; a running, fast break type offense. And then bring in team two led by Luke and Fisher. Team two would slow the pace down significantly and strictly run the offense to cut down on possessions to keep us in the game while team one is out?

I'm not sure if Andre Miller fits into the Laker's system all too well. He's only a 40.3% jump shooter. As opposed to guys like Smush Parker who shot 48.4% on his jumpers. Even Derek Fisher was a better jump shooter; he shot 41.0% last year.

I think they would. We have a nice expiring contract and young guys, that's good stuff for a rebuilding team. Miller isn't the perfect tri PG, but I'd much rather have him than Kwame.
